Forum + shoutbox and it should be ok... Too lazy to swith to home every time i wanna shout...
I've tried but it won't work... 
Go to Admin, Simpleportal,block,block list, Move the shoutbox up if not already done, put it above something not as important like 'whos online'. Modify it, And find the option 'Show block on....' and either put forums or 'everywhere'

You have to make a block for the shoutbox. Can be done under the shoutbox options and it will give you an option to make a block, play with the settings i said earlier.. Then bam.. After a few setting changes it should view. If it still doesn't work the layout your using 'xmas' May just not support that specific action. The layout named 'Scratch' does.
